Two things kept me thinking a probable 2 & 1/2 star. First humans have sex but 3-4 pages of exotic, defined sex did nothing for a otherwise intense, intriguing novel. Secondly the ending chapter became a fantasy, feel good, not very real end.Product details

Wild Game Blayne Davis 9781497354678 Books Reviews
You don't always think of a worldwide conspiracy when you are thinking about gambling and sports betting but Blayne Davis ties the two together and ramps up the mystery and suspense in his debut novel, ‘Wild Game. In the novel we are following Mitchell who is a businessman that just happens to be in the business of predicting, fixing, and winning at sports betting at any means possible which is all based on an algorithm that the company has created.
Illegal? Yes. Profitable? Very much yes. Perfect life? Well, he seems to have it until the government gets wind of what hes up to at which point everything starts to crumble around him.
Of course, Mitchells company isn't the only one that is in this business and not only does he have to try to fend off the government while keeping his empire intact but rivals as well.
The plot itself is solid but it is hard to really mention the characters outside of our lead as there are just so many introduced in the novel. I feel the one stumbling stone is how many are introduced and while most are fleshed out enough I felt an almost disconnect with a few of them. That being said its a minor quibble in comparison to how solid the rest of the book is.
For a different take on a thriller, in ‘Wild Game you are in for a wild ride of illegal sports gambling and shown an entirely new world of money and crime that will grab you and not let you go until the very end.
Wild Game by Blayne Davis was a very interesting book. It has been a while since I read this genre. This is a book that you are going to want to pay close attention to because it does bounce back and forth between scenes. I could actually see this book as a movie and as I read it, I could see each scene playing out (didn’t really need the alligator scene in my head).
The thing I liked about this book was how it showed that corruption was possible in just about any area of business that has to do with money. It also showed that those closest to you could also be the ones that can do the most damage to you. Friendships are hard to come by and trust is even harder. What do you do when there is betrayal lurking around every corner? Who do you trust then?
I give this book 5 stars. This book kept me thoroughly entertained and I did not want to put it down because I was anxious to see how it would all play out. I look forward to reading the next book of this series.
Very fast pace story with a lot of twists and turns, was hard to put down. The action and the intrigue was all there, kept me interested and I'm wondering how much is really fiction?
This is a fast paced story filled with lively and interesting characters; and contains scenes so real to the mind's eye, they become visible and tangible. The audience is sure to find the intricate relationships and crossing paths of organized crime, law enforcement and entrepreneurs (who are just trying to stay ahead of the game of international sports gambling) interesting and exciting. Readers will not be disappointed with this behind the curtain look at a world many do not know exists.
Wild Game follows the life and exploits of Mitchell, a wealthy and successful businessman. While its not too apparent what he does early on, its clear that hes involved in shady stuff. His business is known as "sports research," but what the company hires top minds from various analytic and statistic fields and put them to work figuring out how to win in the world of sports and gambling. The real winner in his business is an algorithm and his ability to fix outcomes. Unfortunately for him, his secrets are outed to the government.
Wild Game moves quickly, giving you the barest glimpse into Mitchell's world before moving on to the intrigue, and by chapter three I was quite engaged in the story. Simon Ong (AKA Henry Ma) is boarding and international flight in order to further Operation Ghost Fish. He seems to be employed by another business similar to Mitchell's which is just ripe for the inevitable clash between companies.
The writing is succinct yet manages to get many details across that let you imagine the lavish lifestyle many of these men lead, and well as the dangers they face in playing with fire. There are a ton of characters spread across the globe, which can lead to confusion in keeping who's-who and where-are-they straight.
The book is lengthy, providing ongoing entertainment. I also didn't notice many overt typos and errors, which is always a plus. Wild Game is an engaging thriller that did indeed introduce me to a world I didn't even know existed.
Two things kept me thinking a probable 2 & 1/2 star. First humans have sex but 3-4 pages of exotic, defined sex did nothing for a otherwise intense, intriguing novel. Secondly the ending chapter became a fantasy, feel good, not very real end.
